Behind The Lens

Location

I had a trellis by my home's front door that was burgeoning with blossoms at varying stages of color, from brilliant blue to half-blue half-violet to curled-closed umbrella-style swirls of white and deep purple. While photographing all of these, I came across this damaged leaf and thought it remarkable that a bud was so determined to bloom that it went through a leaf to create space on the filled trellis.

Time

I took this photo November 3, 2015, at 2:17 pm.

Lighting

all natural light

Equipment

I used whatever iPhone camera I had late 2015. Although I take thousands of photos, I don't have any equipment besides my iPhone.

Inspiration

I had a trellis by my home's front door that was burgeoning with blossoms at varying stages of color, from brilliant blue to half-blue half-violet to curled-closed umbrella-style swirls of white and deep purple. While photographing all of these, I came across this damaged leaf and thought it remarkable that a bud was so determined to bloom that it went through a leaf to create space on the filled trellis.

Editing

The original photograph did not display accurately the colors I could see, so I tried the tools in my iPhone to make the photo look more like what I was observing.

In my camera bag

Equipment? Bag? Ha! I am but a humble novice with an iPhone.

Feedback

What I do is look for patterns, gaps in patterns, patches of color changes, and glimpses of partially hidden underlying details.
