Location
This photo was shot just north of Copenhagen in Denmark. The gas station was designed by the world-famous architect Arne Jacobsen. The roof is his famous chair 7 upsides down.Time
I shot this photo 22 minutes past noon on a cloudy day.Lighting
All lighting in this photo I have created in the post-process. The photo is shot in overcast weather on purpose, to have no shadows. The first time I went there to photograph was on a sunny day.Equipment
I used a tripod, Nikon D800, Nikon 16-35mm. And as it has turned out, it was the very last photo I shot using the D800, before putting it aside forever.Inspiration
I always loved the gas station. It is the most beautiful gas station I have ever seen. And I wanted to create something unique.Editing
This is a highly processed photo. I have shot the photo on an overcast day. I took control of the scene in the post and I have created my own light. This took months to get it where I wanted it. I used a ton of maskes and layers in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I use two bags. A larger F-stop bag, for travelling, but a smaller Peak Design Everyday bag, 20l version, at home. I have two Sony cameras at all times. Sony A7R II and Sony A7R IV and usually 24-105 f/4 on one and either a 16-35 f/4 or 12-24 f/4 on the other. Sometimes I also have a 70-200 f/4 along. I use a Sirui tripod, and Really Right Stuff ball head, and Promedia L-bracket system. Often I also use my Manfrotto Super grib, to keep both cameras in play to get different compositions. At the time of shooting I also had my Sony D800 in the car, as a spare camera.Feedback
This style of Fine Art Black and White photography, is usually shot on overcast days to be able to add the light to your liking in Photoshop. The whole point is to create the light yourself, in Photoshop or similar software. It requires skills to be able to add the light.
