This photo was taken in my home studio in Florida. I am a self taught photographer so I am always learning something new.Time
This is one of my favorite boudoir images. This photo was taken on April the 8th 2009 around 8:30 pm.Lighting
I used a studio strobe with a softbox and an sb900 flash, one main light on a dark grey backdrop. I love the variety you can create with just one main light setting it up in different places. I used a flash to help separate her from the background a little but I like the look of her disappearing in to the background. the light is placed off to the side for contrast and just highter than my model, i wanted drop-off as I got lower down her body.Equipment
I used a nikon D 300, 24-85 lens 2.8-4 lens. SB 900 flash, studio strobe with a softbox.Inspiration
This young lady had come to me for a boudoir shoot because she had lost 110 lbs and wanted to document her new look. She had also been run over by a car and her vinyl boots melted into her skin on her leg from the muffler on the car, leaving her with deep large burn scars even after several surgeries. She was very self conscience of her body. So that made me very determined for her to see her body in a new light. I wanted to help her love herself. I felt very accomplished not only by this image but by several more from that shoot. She uses her pictures to remind herself that she is very beautiful and has a very sensual body.Editing
I used photoshop CS4 to edit. But mostly I desturated the colors and added a mocha tint for the ambient lighting on her skin.In my camera bag
My go to kit for portrait work includes my Nikon D810, I also use my D 300 at times. A handful of 32 gb Sandisk CF Cards and Several 64 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SD Cards Circular Polarizer Filter L-358 Sekonic Meter Nikon 85mm 1.4 Nikon 35mm 1.4 Nikon 135mm 2.0 Nikon 50mm 1.4 Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 Nikon 60mm 2.8 macro several batteries, battery charger, and lens hoods. Cleaning cloth. plastic bag. note pad, pen and flashlight. My favorite lens right now is my 85 1.4. I never go anywhere without this one. It's a fabulous focal lenght for flattering portraits, fantastic in low light and very sharp.Feedback
When it comes to sexy photography, there is a fine line between tasteful and crude. For me boudoir is more about capturing images that don't necessarily have to show any skin. I listen to my clients. I try to emphasize what she loves about her body while playing down what she doesn't. I try to evoke an emotion in her, playful, edgy, sexy, shy etc. I talk to her and let her relax and I just guide her in real actions, brushing away hair in her face, they way she moves or smiles. I also look for the best lighting. Where is the light falling from, where are the shadows. Use arms and legs to create interest in an image. Remember if she feels sexy, she'll be sexy!
