Location
This photo was taken in front of Tre Cime di Lavaredo, also knows as Three Peaks of Lavaredo or Drei Zinnen. It is located in Northern Italy, in the Dolomites area. It is a well-known iconic place for tourism and climbers.Time
This image was captured at dawn in two moments in time. I set up the tripod at around 6 am, and the first image was taken at the peak of the colors in the sky, at about 6.30 am. The colors were really beautiful, but the image was missing light: the sun had not yet risen, so the foreground and the mountain peaks were flat. I didn't move the composition. The second image was taken about 30 minutes later, as the sun rose over the mountain and the very first light of the morning hit the foreground and created the magical alpenglow on the side of the Three Peaks. It was September 8th, 2018! I am very fond of this image because currently is the older one I still have in my galleries!Lighting
I created this image by blending two different moments of light: the first was taken at the peak of the colors in the sky, which were absolutely gorgeous, but at that time the foreground and the mountain peaks were really flat and boring and lacked in contrast and depth. So I left the camera on the tripod and waited until the sun rose over the mountains, illuminating the foreground and creating the beautiful alpenglow in the peaks. I blended the two images in Adobe Photoshop to give the look that I like on my images, ad give my take on this iconic location!Equipment
This image was shot on my first DSLR, a Canon 600D (Canon T3i), and the kit lens 18-55mm f3.5-5.6. I also used an Andoer tripod.Inspiration
I took this image on a road trip with 3 friends of mine. It was my first time on the Italian Dolomites, and my first real photography trip, so I was thrilled to see these beautiful mountains. The day I took this photo was our 4th in the area. I was really inspired by these unbelievable views!Editing
First things first, I blended the two raw images together, using luminosity masks in Adobe Photoshop. The sky in the post-sunrise shot was blue, so it was easy to tweak a little the blue channel and isolate the sky. Then, I did the basic post-processing by adjusting the colors, some dodge and burn on the foreground and the peaks, I removed some distractions and sensor dust from the sky, clean up the borders of the image, and lastly, I add a little bit of sharpness by using the high pass filter. In my camera bag
I took this image with my old gear. Now I use a Fujifilm X-T3 and X-T2, with the Fujinon 10-24 f4, the 16-55 f2.8, and the 55-200 f3.5-4.8. My tripod is the Benro Mach3, which I love for its sturdiness. I carry all this gear on a Think Tank Airport backpack. I also use a DJI Mini 2 drone, mainly for aerial videos but sometimes I also capture some images as well.Feedback
Once you have the composition you like, don't move your tripod, and always be patient to wait for the best light! The scenery in front of you will be changing a lot from the blue hour to the golden hour, and this way you will be able to catch the best moment you like, or even combine more moments together!
