Location
This photograph was captured in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa. I came across a herd of wild Giraffe and found these two having a real gentle moment rather than the normal more aggressive necking. I am a self taught photographer who aims at improving my skills as I capture more and more special wildlife moments.Time
I was doing my usual self-drive in the park when on my return to camp, I came across a very large herd of more than 30 Giraffe. This moment was captured at 16h06 on 12 July 2021.Lighting
I wanted this unique moment to stand out and with the arid and bright light of the Kalahari, made some background adjustments to bring to the front the beauty of these wonderful animals.Equipment
Picture captured with Nikon D850 and Sigma 150-600mm S. Beanbag for stability and no other equipment used.Inspiration
Being in nature and having the pleasure of engaging with these animals through a viewfinder, teaches me so much of the particular animal's behaviour. The moment of tenderness was enough inspiration thanks to these magnificent animals.Editing
I have done some processing of the RAW image on PS and then replaced the background for a more artistic rendition. In my camera bag
I always have the NIKON D850 fitted with SIGMA 150-600mm S, a NIKON D7200 with TAMRON 35-150mm lens, spare batteries, lenses, memory cards, filters and a few extras.Feedback
Being self-taught it is difficult to give advice to other photographers who are more skilled than me. My advice to beginners and even the amateur, is that you must shoot, shoot and shoot. It always gets better and the quality of your images keeps on improving the more you use your equipment. Most importantly enjoy the moment and enjoy the result.
