This photo was taken in my home in Albuquerque.Time
This photo was taken late morning after I had finished watering the garden. I had noticed the biggest bee I have ever seen flying around and I was trying to get a picture to show my family.Lighting
The sun was bright, mid-day. I was curious about what kind of shot I would be able to get. Chose to set the camera on auto just to see what would happen.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3500, with my Nikkor 70-300 mm lens. No tripod, no flash.Inspiration
I was looking at taking a photo with a bee in action. I noticed this big bumblebee in my garden and wanted to get a close up of him to compare to the smaller bees I usually see. I had taken several shots of him diving into the flowers on my tomato plants, but was thrilled to get one with him rolling head over heels in the pollen. I shared the picture with my children and said this was the coolest picture I have ever taken.Editing
I did put the photo in my photoshop and added a little depth of field. I wanted to blur the edges out a little and put the main focus on the bee and what he was doing. In my camera bag
I am new to photography. I have my Nikon D3400, my kit lenses and two extra that I have been practicing with. One is a digital 50 mm lens and a new Altura super macro lens. I have added a cleaning kit, battery charger and extra batteries and a few extra memory cards.Feedback
My advice would be to look around, find an interesting subject and see what you can capture. I have spent most of my late mornings and mid afternoons in my garden watching the insects that come around and trying to get a picture of them. Spending time observing the world around me has given me new insight to pictures I want to try. While I have been afraid of bees my entire life I found with my longer lens I could get a real close up while keeping my distance.
