Behind The Lens

Location

This was a one Day Concert, Art Gallery and Photo exhibit headlined by Estevan Oriole where I was featured as a guest photographer a r had my work on display. The show is called 2 Live & Die in LA

Time

This was at the outside concert section of the event. I had stepped out from the exhibit to check put this local old school band by the name of Cycotic Youth from Venice , CA. I was so preoccupied with getting prints done and getting to the show that I forgot to clear my cards... I had 5 free GB of space and well I snapped a few pics at around 6pm. I got a few keepers!

Lighting

This was all natural lighting in direct sunlight. I shot from an angle where the light graduates to shade and it makes for a well balanced image.

Equipment

This was shot handheld with a canon EOS R and a canon 24mm 1.8 Lens. That’s it!

Inspiration

I love documentary style of photography... specifically live acts such as musicians. I also love punk rock music and my city.. the event was being help to showcase Los Angeles talent in its various forms. I live for this stuff so it was natural instinct to take my camera out and shoot.

Editing

I used Lightroom to turn the image to BnW and did minor adjusting to the exposure settings.

In my camera bag

I shoot my R with a battery grip so I don’t have to worry about battery swaps. I shoot in Manual mode religiously, and I lean very heavily to my 24mm 1.8 as I have a tendency to get up close and personal with my subjects... I also always have my Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 which I use for just about anything and everything including portraits. I always carry a nifty 50mm just in case!

Feedback

When shooting moving subjects keep your shutter speed above 1/250 preferably above 1/400 if possible. If your trying to narrow in on a subject like the singer in this image I keep my aperture wide open to get the background out of focus and watch your iso levels. Just jam out to the music and and enjoy yourself let your eye do the work.
