Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Republic of Georgia, just outside of a small town called Svaneti located in the Caucus Mountains. There was a small guesthouse on the hilltop with farm animals and swing sets, and I took this photo on the side of the hill while exploring the area alone.

Time

It was sometime during the afternoon. I don't remember the exact hour, but I came here just after lunch. I woke up very early in Batumi to get here at a decent time. The drive was long, maybe between three and five hours after a few stops. I wasn't happy with the drive, but getting here immediately changed my mood.

Lighting

I loved the lighting in all of Georgia. There were days where it was overcast or hazy and the sun was behind rainclouds. There were also amazing sunrises and sunsets that made the sky turn into a large variety of colors. However, this moment was flooded with sunlight despite being a cloudy day. Also, since it was high in the mountains, it was warm but not unbearably hot.

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy S21. No tripod, filter or flash was needed because the landscape was so beautiful and clear by itself. I did not use a wide angle lens or any zoom. I simply opened the camera, and started taking photos!

Inspiration

I loved the serenity. As I mentioned, it was a long drive and I was quite stiff and honestly a little depressed from heavy thinking, so this beautiful landscape was needed. I had already taken many photos of the animals, fences, and other mountains, some of which you can see on my profile. I was literally running around the area taking photos of everything. I liked the flowers in this area so much that I stopped running and laid down next to them. That's how I saw these flowers from this angle.

Editing

I did not. I only added my watermark!

In my camera bag

I'm an amateur and use my smartphone for every photo I take...but I'd love to get a camera sometime!

Feedback

When depressed or anxious about anything, go to nature and trust the sun. Then let your mood decide what things you should photograph. Mine began with people, then fence and animals. By the time I was absolutely calm, I thought there was nothing more perfect to photograph than the wildflowers on the hill. Get close to whatever you choose and feature its surroundings in the background. I took this photo in the mountains, but you could take one like it on the beach, in the desert or forest, or anywhere you find yourself at peace.
