I took this photo in my office on July 13 T 11 AMTime
This was mid-morning, I usually will set up for flower shoots after giving them to my wife over the weekend.Lighting
I was really playing with a black glossy background and some LCDs to try to get the lighting just right to highlight the flowers and isolate them.Equipment
I used a Nikon Z7 and FTZ adaptor with a Tamron 70-300 Macro that I have had for years. I also used a glossy black tabletop and a clamp for the background. I used two aperture small LCD lights as wellInspiration
I have been playing with macro for a little while, so I started to post a flower shot every Friday on my instagram. I started this about two years ago. Now every Friday I post a close up a flower on my instagram account and tag with #flowerfriday.Editing
A little bit, I have to shut down the blacks to isolate like this, increase exposure a little and I always add some clarity and dehaze on macros. Because of the blues I also changed the temp to be slightly cooler. In my camera bag
For macros, I generally use a specimen holder with two attachments, a black cloth to try to obscure it, the aperture lights and my two older macro lenses. I have a Tamron 70-300 Macro and a Tokina 90MM Macro. I use my Z7 for all. I will be adding the new Nikon Z 105 as soon as I can. For landscapes, I use mainly my Nikon 14-28 F2.8, 24-200 F5.6, Tamron 70-200 G2 2.8 and Nikon 24-70 f 4. I will occasionally add the Nikon 50mm 1.8 and the Viltrox 85 1.8. And my tripod.Feedback
Macros or just closeups as these likely are, take practice and patience. The depth of field is often very shallow and the lighting is very specific. But with practice and striving for those needed 10,000 hours of experience, it can be very rewarding. You get to capture something that maybe would be alive for a week or so and immortalize it. How cool is that!
