Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo under the Kingston Bridge in Glasgow that holds theM8 motorway on the south side of the River Clyde.

Time

I visited Glasgow on June 15th 2021 and travelled around the city taking photos of the sights and sounds of the city. I arrived at the underside of the bridge at 1:32pm

Lighting

It was a cloudy, rainy day in Glasgow, and when taking the original, unedited photo, I wanted to match the gloomy aesthetic with a dark look.

Equipment

I took this photo on a Nikon D5500 with 18-55mm f3.5 lens with no additional equipment

Inspiration

The road leading away from where I was standing back to the main road along with the pillars really caught my eye and made me want to capture the moment.

Editing

I adjusted the brightness/contrast to match my vision of the mood lighting. I then tried out a black & white filter to see how it looked and I liked the way it looked so I kept it.

In my camera bag

When going out to shoot, I always have my Nikon D5500 with 18-55mm lens, Sigma 70-300mm lens, Polaroid 600 camera with extra photo paper. I also keep my flashgun on me in case of emergency.

Feedback

You need to know how to make the light work for you. I've found it easier to tell a story through your photos if you use the lighting you have and touch it up afterwards to make it look more how you want the end result to look.
