Location
This photo was taken at Westbury white horse last year, on a family outing. I'm a self taught photographer, so every photo I create is something I achieve along my journey. Love finding new places that I can share memories with everyone.Time
To be honest, this is one of my favourite images on film. If I remember correctly, which doesn't happen a lot, we went to this location around 12pm. Tripod in hand, cameras locked and loaded with some black and white film. We ended up walking around on a cold day, and I captured this image around 12:45pm.Lighting
From what I remember on that day, it was overcast and cold. I thought it would be a perfect day to get some sort of emotional mood in black and white. The way the clouds created shadows, highlights and some dark grey clouds moving in behind me, just created a story.Equipment
My equipment on that day funnily enough was my trusty tripod, attached to an old Agfa Isolette 1 6x6 85mm f4.5 lens, 120 film camera, with some Ilford PanF 50 Plus loaded. For metering, I brought along my CANON EOS 500N.Inspiration
I was looking at Westbury white horse online, and there where a few points of interest that I thought would look fantastic! My love for black and white film only recently came about, the location and clouds inspired me to capture moody yet thought provoking images that day.Editing
Having scanned the negatives in with my Epson V600 scanner, the only adjustments made where correcting the negative stock, dust removal and unsharpening mask applied in Photoshop. I hardly ever edit my images beyond what the eye perceives. In my camera bag
Great question, I'd have to say the very first thing that goes in my bag is the Agfa isolette camera. I love medium format cameras! Along with my Canon EOS 500n, I have 70-200 F4 L USM, 24-105 F4 L, nifty 50 1.8. Different film stocks mainly Ilford stocks, ranging from iso 50 to 400 mainly. Mustn't forget the tripod and the shutter release cable.Feedback
The only advice I can offer, is this. Decide on what you would like to capture before you go to the location, what mood or emotions you want to create, then slow down and take your time when you're at your location. You could miss out on some amazing shots if you rush. Where I shoot film on an older camera, it forces me to slow down and think, I only have 12 shots per roll. Enjoy the day and find those memories to capture.
