Not quite ripe for the picking, it'll be perfect tomorrow morning. Truly 'everblooming', my roses start in spring and keep flowering until late fall when I cut them back and re-shape them for winter and next springs new growth. They were planted 30 years ago when we moved in here, given to us by friends who were moving away, and still seem to be thriving. although I've read that the average life of a rose bush is 25 years. I don't use chemical insecticides or fertilizers, rely on those lovely ladybugs for aphid control. I do have a major problem with the fog blowing over the hill at night and have to constantly check for leaf mildew and rust to remove affected leaves before the diseases can spread. Because most are planted along the front fence, their distinctive aromas bring joy to neighbors and passersby who do indeed, 'stop and smell the roses'.
