Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is taken on the Duck River, Smithton, Tasmania. I grew up as an oyster farmers daughter, and this photo is one of our working punts heading home from our oyster leases located at the mouth of the river.

Time

The sun was rising from the East and it was a perfect time to capture this moment around 8am, April 2021.

Lighting

I wanted to capture the mud flats looking as pretty as it sometimes can when the light reflects on it a certain way. We have a 3.5 meter rise and fall with the tides every 12 hours and every day it looks complettely different depending on the angle.

Equipment

I used my Iphone 11 to capture this shot

Inspiration

My earliest memories are watching Dad leave for the oyster lease, and I just love the combination of water, sun, boat and jetty.

Editing

I darkened this photo with a filter so I could capture the sun reflection and minimise the colour differences to as not to detract with the colours of the water.

In my camera bag

Usually just my Iphone because I am work.

Feedback

My motto is, drop everything if the sun is right!! Take as many photos with slightly different heights and angles to get the light in the best place to capture the subject. I love water shots as this creates a mood that makes me feel like home!
