📍 St Ives 🌊🌊

These stumps are all that remain of a wooden pier (known as "Wood Pier" or "New Pier") which stood for just 20 years before being claimed by the sea. It was built in 1864 close to Smeaton's Pier (Bamaluz Beach) to expand St Ives harbour.

This is the second time I've tried shooting these stumps. They are only prominent for about half and hour either side of low tide. I like to shoot at sunrise, so there are very few opportunities to attempt it around other commitment (like work!). As nice as a moody sky can be, I'd really like just a bit of colour in the sky... maybe next time!

A shutter speed of 1.6 seconds was long enough to capture the incoming waves as they broke around the stumps, through to the bottom of the frame.

I'll admit to a little Photoshop "clean up." I removed a boulder between the rows of stumps, and the land on the horizon across the bay.
