Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during golden hour at a local park in Missouri. Golden hour is my favorite because it can be either super predictable or completely unpredictable, and this image was an unpredictable perfect moment.

Time

This was early spring during the tail end of golden hour when the sun was about to call it a day.

Lighting

Backlighting my subjects is one of my favorite methods of photographing. It, like golden hour, can be extremely unpredictable but in the best way. I love shooting like this because the results can be show-stopping if you get it just right.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon 6D Mark ii and 24-105mm lens.

Inspiration

The soft pink blossoms caught my eye, and the model is a gentle soul. It only made sense to pair the two.

Editing

I always use LightRoom to edit my images. I enhance the colors as well as use the curve to adjust highlights, mid-tones, and shadows.

In my camera bag

My camera bag essentials are pretty typical. But I always have my Canon 6D Mark ii, 24-105 lens, 50mm lens, SD cards, batteries, external flash, and of course snacks!

Feedback

Play around before committing to a composition. You never know what kind of happy accidents you might encounter. The world can look totally different depending on how you frame it. Don't be afraid to shoot into the sun. If you do it enough, it might just become your favorite way to photograph. I can't tell you how many times I was warned against it, but it has given me some of my favorite images!
