Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken whilst visiting places in Exmoor, Devon on holiday with my family.

Time

I took this mid morning on the third day of our holiday. The day before had been very overcast and it was meant to be raining through the night and next couple of days. Thankfully the weather had slightly improved over night and the clouds were broken in the morning.

Lighting

I was able to capture this photograph as the clouds moved and some light managed to break though onto the peacock.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 2000d and a 75-300mm F4-5.6 IS lens, I used no other equipment.

Inspiration

I am a great lover of animals and am always looking to capture a photograph of one that I haven't yet photographed before. I had recently purchased a second-hand canon EF 75-300MM F4-5.6 IS lens and so was particularly keen to try it out and so, I had had this lens attached from the start that morning, just waiting for an opportunity to arise that I could size.

Editing

I didn't use any post-processing on this photograph.

In my camera bag

Along with my Canon 2000d I always have my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM prime lens. I love this lens for many reasons and it doesn't take up much space in my bag like my Canon EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 IS does. I brought this second hand to replace my sigma 75-300mm lens, mainly for the image stabiliser, It was definitely worth it. I also have the 18-55mm lens that my camera came with however It is my least used lens as I tend to use it mostly for photographing vehicles. The last piece of equipment is my tripod however, I sometimes will leave this behind as I find that at times, it can get in the way.

Feedback

To be completely honest, I don't really know what advice I can give. I quite like long walks and don't mind waiting for wildlife to become used to my presence so that they continue as if I'm not there, and in just my few years experience photographing wildlife, the best sort of advice I can give is, you need patience and sometimes, as with this photograph, just to be in the right place at the right time.
