ð¸â¾ï¸ G O L D E N - D U N E S - I I â¾ï¸ð¸
ð Holywell Bay ðâï¸ð
I posted a photo of this scene at Holywell Bay in portrait format a few weeks ago. I felt the upright orientation better suited the path leading through the dunes. But... with my 2022 calendar in mind, I did my best to frame a landscape composition. Does it work? Let me know what you think!
Here's the description from the previous post...
Upon arriving at Holywell Bay Beach, I found myself looking over a "Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon" film set!
Lorries were being backed into the car park, a temporary road snaked around the dunes up to the surf life saving clubhouse, thick electric cables were laid over the dunes... and part of a shipwreck (a prop) was being guarded by a security team with dogs!
As I wandered the dunes, occasional signs (some reading "strictly no photography") were positioned to keep people away. Now, I'm a GoT fan, but I didn't know this was a set for the forthcoming prequel. I thought to myself - "Pfft! What right do they have to stop me taking photos on a beach?... And in fact, the chaos was ruining my chance of getting a shot!" ð
When barking guard dogs came bounding up to me, I decided to retreat back up the dunes (while asking myself - "what right does the production team have to use such threatening measures to stop people enjoying the coast?")
By this time, the dropping sun cast golden light over the dunes. Being forced back up the dunes made me rediscover this path that I had forgotten all about. I used it in my composition to lead the eye through the grass towards "Carter's Rocks." Despite trying to frame the shot to eliminate any hint of the film set, I did have to remove some fencing, security guards and part of a cherry picker in post production!
I guess though, if I wasn't put out by the filming, I might not have found this composition. And I'm now massively looking forward to HBO's House of the Dragon! ð
