Behind The Lens

Location

Franklin, Virginia: Franklin High School Softball Field/Camp Community College Softball Field

Time

It was around 2:00 p.m. on a beautiful spring day. It was the first really warm day of 2021 and the sun was so bright. I was watching a softball game and this little bee was watching with me.

Lighting

The sun was super bright and the sky so vivid blue. It was one of those days where you say "I need a little shade". And just like that this multi-colored cloud started forming around the sun and when the shade was just right, this little bee traveled up to the top of the fence and started watching the game.

Equipment

Nikon D3500 - AF-S DX 18-55mm f/3.4-5.6 lens. No flash.

Inspiration

For about the last hour of the game, there were three bees that kept coming around where I was sitting. This little guy stayed and watched the game with me. He flew in and out of the fencing trying to find the right shade and when he did, he went right to the top and watched the field.

Editing

Yes I used Luminar to adjust the exposure and color of the sky.

In my camera bag

Just my Nikon D3500 and a couple of lenses.

Feedback

Be patient - that bee was flying around for a few hours. I just put my camera in focus ready for the shot and waited for him to land in that spot. Patience is required when shooting anything that moves.
