With a little effort it's possible to hear the sound of geology.

The sound track here being rock fall, avalanche and creaking and groaning ice. This place is very much alive.

The rock covered mass of ice that you can see in the picture is the mighty Tasman Glacier in the Aoraki-Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand. It's simply vast. To give you an idea of scale, the small vertical ice cliff rising out of the water is 200 meters high in places. Incredible!

The weather changes fast in the mountains and within a few hours, the warming sunshine turned to miserable cold heavy rain. The kind that gets you really wet ;)
