Behind The Lens

Location

The picture was taken in Slane. Co. Meath, Ireland, during the preparations for my cousins wedding. The bathroom in the room where she was getting ready had these nice big windows.

Time

It was taken at around 1330 in the afternoon. The light was quite strong.

Lighting

I'm a big fan of available light. The room had these big windows which allowed in a lot of light. I asked her to hold on to the curtain and pull them a little because the light was so strong it was spilling on to the walls and killing the effect I wanted. The

Equipment

It was shot on a nikon D4s with a 24-70 lens. No flash, no lights, no reflectors.

Inspiration

Before the wedding I went to the hotel to check out the shooting locations and I really liked the lighting in the room.

Editing

I made the picture quite contrasty in post processing which brought up more details in the dress. I also desauturated the colors to give this old look to it.

In my camera bag

Canon 5d Mk4, Canon 7d Mk2, canon 85mm 1.4, canon 24-70, sigma 60-600mm sport and a 1.4 converter

Feedback

Don't be afraid to try. Check every possible location after all this was taken in the bathroom. You don't always need big lights to get good light.
