The sun had set in Patan Durbar Square by the time we arrived, but we were lucky enough to still capture a few twilight images. We had visited the square earlier in the day and planned to get back in time for sunset, but I failed in my planning as I wrote down the time of the sunrise instead of sunset – we all make mistakes right? I grabbed this quick shot when we first arrived using a 2.5 second exposure at f-2.8 before trying a couple longer exposures. One of the complications I faced, but not something I would ever complain about, was children standing in front of my camera to beg for money. Many tourists will pay the children to take their photo and they wanted me to do the same – something I try to avoid doing. There are many different thoughts on this that I don’t want to get into on this post.
Patan Durbar Square is a fascinating place filled with bustling streets and a rich history of, art, ancient palaces, pagoda temples and Hindu and Buddhist statues. I tried to encapsulate as much of this into the image – and while I fought the various temperatures of light, it actually added to the vibrance of the scene.
