I took this particular photo at Mt.Coot-tha in Brisbane city, AustraliaTime
This photo was snapped around the middle of the day, which provided ideal lighting to take advantage of, as there was lots of tree cover around so I managed to get use out of the direct sunlight from over headLighting
These particular spiders had littered lots of these small puddles/bodies of water around the mountain and had certainly peaked my curiosity as I wasn’t totally sure what they were all doing perched on the edge of these small rocks. I had my suspicious that they would wait for other small creatures to retire to the edge where it was waiting, in order to surface from under the water or to swim across to dry land, and after some research I was happily correct on that assumptionEquipment
I was using my trusty little CANON EOS600D, without a tripod for this picture. It posed a bit of a challenge as it was quite difficult to get a shot that wasn’t blurry while I was zoomed in and so close to the little fishing spider here, but after probably about 30-40 shots of trying to capture a sturdy and in focus shot of the critter, I was able to successfully get my shot!Inspiration
As an Australian, I’ve always had a very strong curiosity of the many types of spiders that surround me, both indoors and out. In order to better understand them, I’ve joined a few Australian spider identification groups and have been taking photos of the arachnida to upload in these groups in order to learn more about their appearances and habits, and to know which ones are safe and ones that pose a bit more of a threatEditing
This photograph here has no post processing on it whatsoever, I was just thrilled to be able to capture such an image of this beauty that I didn’t feel like it was necessary to add anything extra to it incase I was to take away from itIn my camera bag
I normally just have my CANON EOS600D as it is my only DSLR camera, my trusty entry level tripod, a ZOOM H5 field mic, and a few basic lenses. I’m still very new to the world of photography so I haven't got a lot of fancy, or even new equipmentFeedback
My advice for anyone trying to achieve a similar photo, is to practice patience and spontaneity. I hadn’t set out with the goal of capturing this spider, but rather than to just enjoy my walk in the bush land and capture what peaked my interest and appreciation. I would suggest maybe investing in a small tripod however, as that would have made getting this shot for me, a lot easier; however persistence is just as key as the equipment you bring along
