In the late 1860's, miners dug a 300 foot long tunnel into a hill of South Pass City, Wyoming with hopes of finding gold. It was named the English Tunnel after its English financial backers. But the project was abandoned when gold wasn't found and the tunnel was closed and sealed off for the next 150 years. The South Pass City State Historic Site restored the tunnel and reopened it in 2018 for a glimpse into history. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to be among the very first to photograph it.
