Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Jubilee College State Park in my new home state of Illinois, shortly after moving here and discovering the area!

Time

Midday lighting can be incredibly tricky, but it was our only option. So my best friend and I ventured out at noon and braved the light to take this.

Lighting

I now know, and want other photographers to be aware that just because midday lighting can be tricky, doesn't mean it's impossible. In fact, some of the most interesting photos can be taken at that time of the day!

Equipment

This shot was taken with my Canon 6D Mark I on an 85MM lens at 2.8 Aperature

Inspiration

I knew I wanted to hide her face from the harsh sun. When we stumbled upon the gorgeous red berries I was like "AH HAH! I want you to pretend as though you've lost something you're searching for within the trees".

Editing

I think post-processing can really bring out the magic in a photo. This was edited entirely on lightroom. I purposely made the highlights blue because the harsh white light felt overwhelming, and the day was nippy so I wanted the color to match that true feeling.

In my camera bag

Oh goodness! These days I'm probably carrying too much with me. I usually bring my backpack everywhere, and it contains a Canon 6D Mark 1, a Canon R, an 85mm Lens, a 35mm lens, my Godox V1, a flash diffuser, and a lume cube.

Feedback

Don't be afraid of the light, and don't be afraid to go out in search of a new place and simply wing it! You don't always need a concept to produce something beautiful.
