This photo was taken at Sunwapta Falls near Jasper, Ab. CanadaTime
I was on a birthday weekend trip to Jasper, Ab from Calgary, Ab. I didn't get an early start as I had work to do before I left. Jasper is about a 5 hour drive through the Canadian Rockies. The drive is gorgeous with many places to stop and take in the scenery. It was about 3 in the afternoon, near the end of March when I stopped in at Sunwapta Falls. As expected. It was still ice and snow covered. I hiked and took many pictures anyway. Back at the parking lot I noticed a Raven sitting on a pile of snow. It as very calm and contemplative. He/she seemed to not mind me taking several pictures of it. This was the best pose of the "shoot."Lighting
Being a somewhat overcast day, the lighting at first was very flat and uninteresting. I decided to click the shutter anyway. Soon after, a bit of the pale, late afternoon broke through the clouds and a ray of light touched the feathers of the Raven. I was fortunate enough to capture this ray as it sat upon the front of the bird.Equipment
This shot was taken with the Nikon Z50, using the 50-250 kit lens. I used a bit higher ISO, with a mid depth of field. The shutter speed was high enough to hand holdthe camera.Inspiration
I have been fortunate to dabble in bird pictures so, how could I resist this Raven who so looked like it was losing for me!Editing
I am currently using Luminar 3 for most of my processing. This particular photo did not require much editing. I increased the details and sharpened it a tad. I usually have a routine in which I process photos but, this one did not warrant the extra editing. I then moved the photo to Photoshop so that I could add my photo logo to the picture. I created the signature as a brush. In my camera bag
Being a Nikon fan since the beginning of my journey into photography, I generally keep a couple of Nikon cameras and some lenses in my bag. This trip I only had my Nikon Z50 with the kit lenses and an F series (with adapter)70-300/4.5 lens. Filters of course!!Feedback
Ravens being very intelligent birds, tend to, in my experience, be very calm and friendly. They do not shy away from the camera at all and, appreciate the attention. One just needs to be patient and let them work with you. Have found that they do like to be given a token of payment intend form of food after.
