'APU' is a Bengali name. The name became more lovable by the Bengali writer Bibhutivushan Bandhapadhya when he used it as the protagonist of one of his major writing - Pather Panchali. Later the novel developed in the great film - 'Pather Panchali' by the Maestro Satyajit Ray.

Here in this picture, the boy's appearance is so similar to Apu from the film Pather Panchali.

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken near the village-'Mediya', which is a extremely rural area at South 24 Pargana, West Bengal, India.

Time

Afternoon

Lighting

This was taken just before a storm. There was very defused light conditions because of the coming clouds.

Equipment

The photo I have taken with my mobile phone camera. The model is Vivo Y81 and it was taken handheld.

Inspiration

We were actually waiting for the next ferry to reach the 'Amphan' (storm striked at bengal) effected area of the village at the opposite bank of the river. The water level was then low. After waiting a while, I noticed some of the kid from that area started playing and chitchatting about the strangers (us) from the city. And I noticed that particular boy, who covered his body with a 'Gamcha'(multipurpose towel used in India) like a shawl and this reminds me the character Apu from the great bengali film - Pather Panchali. I took the shot.

Editing

Yes. The photo was not taken in monochrome as there was limitations in mobile phone. I did a monochrome treatment at post-processing and added some grain for minimising the phone digital camera effect.

In my camera bag

I don't have my own camera. Sometime, I can able to have a Canon 800D with the kit lens which is my friend's. Generally I use my phone camera.

Feedback

I want share which I have learnt during taking this picture and that is waiting. Waiting for the correct moment. The moment which help to have the desired composition. I learnt about the light too.. I mentioned, that the moment was just before a storm but at afternoon. So I faced continuous changing in light. So I wait and taken 2-3 shots from which this one I selected for the light which I desired.
