Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a RSPB nature reserve in Somerset, in the United Kingdom. The bird was part of a small flock of Robins feeding on seeds that had fallen on the ground .

Time

The photo was taken during the afternoon using a Canon 5D Mk IV. I was walking along a trail when I saw the birds feeding, the photo was in a group of shots taken.it was a pure chance shot I was looking to photograph some of the wildfowl in the reserve..

Lighting

I tend to use natural lighting I like to shoot mid morning or afternoon, depending on weather conditions I do carry a flash with a Better Beamer attachment also.

Equipment

Camera was a Canon 5D Mk IV. With a 100 to 300 5.6 lens

Inspiration

Just a general interest in birds never really successful with the small birds unless siting and waiting.

Editing

The only post processing I did was to crop the photo, and enhanced the lighting.

In my camera bag

Tend to carry a tripod depending on the weather and the location. Flash gun but that’s usually in the bag rarely used . I have canon room DO lens for used on the tripod, I have hand held it with some success but it is heavy.

Feedback

Just take the shot. As they appear at the time many are taken on the move walk slow and observe the surrounding areas I tend to walk a few steps and look around remembering to look on the ground as well. Remember take it slow and easy. Yes I use either full manual . Or aperture priority . Good luck
