Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the Canadian side of the Detroit river in Amherstburg, Ontario. In Angstrom Park.

Time

This was taken at sunset

Lighting

I was looking for a break in the clouds to get that wispy look for my long exposure to compliment the river's look. it never materialized. But thankfully this scene happened.

Equipment

l can't be sure but i had a canon rp and a t7i that evening. l believe l used my tokina 11-16, but my tamron 24-70 resides on my rp 90 percent of the time. Neewer tripod.

Inspiration

I was up for a dramatic sunset, some long exposures, some wide seascape shot. So the camera was set up for a long exposure and my composition was set. The magic happened when a great blue heron plopped down and became part of the scene. l just went with it. l was happy and surprised the bird was part of the capture. Especially, that it was a heron. They are so perfect for such a shot.

Editing

l use acdsee and luminar ai. It's great for what l do. l can't compare it to photoshop or lightroom because l never used them.

In my camera bag

In my small bag, i have my canon rp with tamron 24-70, 70-200. Sometimes l have a tokina 11-16 or 100mm macro. In my other bag, a t7i with a tamron 100-400 and a drone

Feedback

l would say, go for the shot in your head and if it doesn't happen, adjust to take the shot that is in front of you. In my case, l was looking for a dramatic sky and my mind's picture never materialized. But I did get this nice capture in blue light. it's one of my favorite captures because of the heron.
