A small dam was built here by a couple of ambitious entrepreneurs in the 1700's, to capture the necessary tidal power to run a grist mill year-round - unlike similar hydroelectric structures upriver that froze most of the year, leaving proprietors, quite literally, powerless.
Today, it's part of a trail that loops the woods on the other side and is known for it's green "wiggly bridge" (most of the way across the water, where the structure was).
