Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in a studio in Liège. It is one of my firsts experiments with studio lighting, but still a photo I'm proud of.Time
I guess it was at night time, which makes it easier to avoid daylight contamination in the studio ;-)Lighting
A simple one light setting : a softbox on the right of the model, quite close to the subject, in order to get a soft light to shadow transition, and also avoid spilling light on the black paper background.Equipment
I used a Canon 5Dmark3, equiped with a Canon 70-200mm 2.8, which is my favourite lens for studio portrait. And of course studio flash equiped with a 100x80cm softbox (if I remember well), and a radio trigger mounted on the camera.Inspiration
I wanted to go for an intimate and sensual atmosphere, capturing a private moment, where the model feels the pleasure of being touched by light.Editing
Regarding post-processing, everything was done in Lightroom : very basic skin retouching, then converting to black@white with a gentle luminosity push on the oranges and yellows. In my camera bag
For studio, I always go with my Canon 5DsR (which replaced my 5Dmark3 since this photo), the Canon 70-200m f2.8, and the 24-70mm f2.8. Everything else (lightings, softboxes, paper backdrops, trigger...) is already in the studio.Feedback
To me this picture is a combination of soft lighting (which goes well for an intimate and soft atmosphere) and expressive pose. Soft lighting (=soft transition from light to shadow) can be obtained using a softbox close to the subject. Placing the softbox close to the model also helps keeping the background pure black.
