Pterois is a genus of venomous marine fish, known as lionfish, zebrafish, firefish, turkeyfish, tastyfish or butterfly-cod, it is characterized by conspicuous warning coloration with red, white, creamy, or black bands, showy pectoral fins, and venomous spiky fin rays. It is a native to the Indo-Pacific.
The lionfish is invading Florida's coastal waters, harming native wildlife and habitat and lacks natural predators. It is able to reproduce quickly, which allows it to dominate other fish species that compete for resources.
