Botany 101...Phragmipedium Malia, a sequential bloomer, this flower, the 6th, opened a few days after watering and therefore didn't get moved until the next watering day, a week later. The red toned side faced the window and though the plant was away from the window and receiving filtered light, developed that red pigment only on the sunny side and not on the shaded side. This illustrates how cactus and orchid flowers can vary from year to year in color and shape when receiving more or less light, different temperatures, amount of water, fertilizer, or even the freshness of the potting medium, when it was repotted last.
