Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico. The snow geese were migrating and often gather in this area along the way. I was lucky enough to capture them before they all took off. There were hundreds of them on this small lake area.

Time

It was probably midday when this shot was taken.

Lighting

I try to keep the lighting natural in these kinds of shots. Short of adjusting the contrast and lightening shadows, I did not do much editing.

Equipment

I used a Sony A57.

Inspiration

I am always inspired by the beauty that surrounds us. As an avid hiker, I try to capture what I see on each adventure. There is so much to learn, explore and witness on this incredible planet. Maybe in doing so I can inspire others to care for their environment better and appreciate all the life that depends on it.

Editing

See above for Lighting.

In my camera bag

When I hike, I try to keep it light and often just carry my Sony A57 with kit lens and my telephoto lens.

Feedback

My only advice is to enjoy the moment. There is beauty all around. We just need to pay attention. As photographers, we have a unique perspective to help capture all that awesomeness around us.
