This photo was taken in the studio on 11/16/2020 at 17:58 with controlled light and soft flash.Time
This photo was taken just before dusk in Salvador, Brazil. The photo shoot with this model started at 2 pm. We did several light tests until photographer and model were ok.Lighting
I used bounce flash and two soft lights at 45° angles. One almost in front and one behind the model. Didn't want to create too much clipping. Just accentuating the beauty of the model and her beautiful skin.Equipment
I used a Canon 80D with a 50mm 1.4 lens with exposure time of 1/125s aperture f/8 and ISO 100. I used a tripod and the aforementioned lights: controlled studio light and two soft flashes.Inspiration
Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia in Brazil, has the largest Afro-descendant community in the country. The culture of Africa is very strong in the streets, in the neighborhoods, in the Candomblé terreiros. Whelks are part of this culture. They add mystical and representative elements of the orixás. I wanted to give a connotation of gold, sparkle, reflections and light up the model so that she really looked like an African princess. The turban, also widely used by black women in Salvador, came in as a complementary element to make the ensemble harmonious.Editing
I used Photoshop to correct skin imperfections, the color of the whelks and to give a glowing tone to the skin.In my camera bag

Study, a lot of study. Planning what you want to do. Choose a model that will put you at ease and be at peace. Before the photos, talk a lot with the model about what you want with the photography. It is important to involve makeup artist and fashion producer in the conversation. Basically you have to have harmony at work. And dedication.
