Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of my brother's cat while I was "cat sitting" for his 2 cats. It was taken at my brother's house in Michigan

Time

It was taken around 1pm in the afternoon I believe.

Lighting

This cat was sleeping on a couch across from a large window. There was reflected afternoon light on the cat.

Equipment

I had my older Cannon EOS Rebel XSI with a 135 mm telephoto on a tripod. I adjust the ISO to 400, since the light was low, and shot was at F4.5 1/60 with manual focus.

Inspiration

I was setting my camera up to shoot a 'sleeping cat on a couch' photo. However, the cat woke up from the noise I had made and got that look of "what are you doing" when I fired a 3 shot bracketed exposure.

Editing

The post processing - cropping to the cat's face, vignette the edges, dodge highlights and sharpen on the eyes.

In my camera bag

My present camera is a Cannon D60 with a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6. However in my bag, I carry my older, 2009, Cannon EOS Rebel xsi body for backup. Other lens are a Sigma 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM --- Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens. Finally- a Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens

Feedback

Best advice is make sure you have a telephoto and tripod. Plus, when possible, use exposure bracketing.
