Location
This Photo was taken in the morning at around 10:00 am during the Covid pandemic. As a result the crowds were sparse and I had large chunks of time with no other people that could be seen. This is Bodiam Castle in East Sussex, the South East of England. Its a 14th century medieval castle with a huge moat around it as a defensive feature.Time
This was taken in the morning at around 10 am. I had just got myself an 18 mm wide angle prime and decided to make its debut at this site.Lighting
A clear morning with a few clouds. The sun had risen a few hours prior and it was out of the golden hour. This was the only practical time I could get for the day.Equipment
I used my Sony A7R2 body with a newly bought Zeiss Basis 18 mm. It was the debut of this lens for me as I had a 20 mm of another brand which I traded off for this. The previous lens gave a lot of distortion and so I had great hopes for this after reading the reviews. I had not used a tripod as I wanted to get my free hand technique right when using such wide angle lens and minimise distortion as much as I could. I took it with an ISO of 100 and F5.6 as I wanted to see how sharp a picture I really would get.Inspiration
This is a well known mediveal castle in the south east of England. There was no real inspiration except the thrill of using a new lens on a well lit day in an area of the country known for its stunning scenery and landscape offerings. The water was a plus point as getting reflections of it always gives another dimension to the picture which is what I wanted.Editing
I use a Benq PD2500q monitor which is calibrated and Pixelmator Pro for my post processing work. However this pic was so well lit that all I did was crop it a bit to give it symmetery. The colours and lighting seen is all what the camera and lens captured with the settings used. So it really is a natural exposure with hardly any manipulation of noteIn my camera bag
I use a Sony A7R2 - a mirrorless full frame that's a few years old but great value for money. I tend to carry two lenses as any more makes the bag weighty and big. My lenses are the Zeiss Basis 18 mm, Sony Zeiss 55 mm Sonnar T and the Sony FE 85mm lens. My tripod is a Manfrotto Compact action. I have polarisers, graduated Hitech 100 system filters and a K&F concept 10 stop filter.Feedback
Its important to not expect too much and just go shooting with a view to get clean sharp exposures. Try to fill the frame the best you can.
