The interdiction to exit ones region pushed me to look for new locations to visit and take photos of within the boundaries of the Lazio region. The recent snowfalls had directed my attention to the Apennine Mountains within Lazio, with the Ernici Mountains and Pizzo Deta (2041m) in particular, being at the top of my list. A first attempt to reach the mountain peak in early December failed when, as usual, I left Rome way too late. However, it was enough for me to already sense the incredible photographic potential of the site. A few days before the Christmas lockdown, I decided to give this “venture” a second try despite the weather. During the climb, a thick blanket of fog, that made it impossible to look a meter away, made me think several times to give up; but in the mountains, you know, you always need to keep on believing, as the weather conditions can change from one moment to another. To continue walking, has been the best decision ever. Once on the summit, after a 3 and a half hours long trekking with a positive elevation of 900m, a wonderful sight appeared in front of our eyes: a privileged view over the Abruzzo’s mountain ranges, from Majella to Gran Sasso. Below us, a sea of clouds brightened by the sunset’s light. A dreamlike landscape.
