This was taken in my humble little make shift studio. Using a paper backdrop and a single light, with my camera on a 12 second timer. This is a self portrait, with a very inexpensive set up!Time
This is an indoor photo, and as I love using natural lighting, anytime of the day that I have daylight flowing into my make-shift studio is great.Lighting
I have daylight from a window flowing into the room, but I also have a continue daylight softbox to the side. This is such an easy set up, anyone can do it!Equipment
I am using a Pentax K1 Mark 11, with a 50mm lens. The camera is tripped with a timer set. The soft box light is to the left and the daylight from my window is directly in front. This is an easy inexpensive set up. This is a self portrait.Inspiration
I was wanting to do a portrait of something that reflects the me, the spirit part of myself. My love for babies and little children run so deep inside of my being. I am a mother of 5 and a grandmother of 11. Each one of these children have given me a rich life full of love. My desire was to do my best to reflect the feelings I feel when hugging a baby. In this photo, I actually am holding a piece of art. This is a reborn doll sculpted by Gudrun Legler of Germany, the doll was then painted by an artist from Hungary, Vicky Kormos. I use these dolls in many many photos.Editing
This photo has a very light and simply matt finish. It is not processed much at all. What you see is what I took.In my camera bag
My bag is very simple. I own one camera, and a few lovely lenses. Pentax camera (K1 mark 11) is a powerful work horse, and I need a rugged machine to withstand the way I take photos. My cameras are treaded with respect, but they are not coddled. They sit on the ground, come out in the rain, and the bitter cold (Canada -40 below), they travel the world with me and are used all the time. I need weather proof, rugged and dependable. Lens.... 35mm, 50mm, 70mm Macro, 50-300, and my beloved 70-200mm. I usually do not use a tripod, love the freedom of free hand.Feedback
Can you feel an emotion when you look at your photo that you captured. If yes, then you have succeeded. When I took this self portrait of myself..... I wanted you to see the pleasure, and feel the love. The best advice I can give when trying to capture something similar, is to be inspired. Remember it can be done on a budget. This is just grey paper as a backdrop. On continues soft box light, a humble 50mm lens. I used a 12 second timer. Yup I did this on of me, all by myself! Have fun...always have fun. Real fun and feelings show in photographs!!! A lot of delicious stuff happens when you hold your baby, In fact, some of these effects are seen when ANY person holds a baby. Essentially, holding a baby gives us a Hormone that brings joy and love. Babies can elicit oxytocin release and we know that the oxytocin system interacts with the dopamine reward system, when you get [oxytocin] increase plus opioids and dopamine in some sequence, you get bonded to whoever you associate with that. If I showed you this in my photo, well then, I am one happy Nana!!
