Location
I live on the south coast of England near a small city called Brighton. This was once the Pier there, now it’s referred to as the West Pier since the fire and new one has been constructed to the East.Time
I was in Brighton really early in the morning, probably about 5am, just walking along the seafront with a coffee. I remember it was quite foggy that morning and everything looked so cinematic.Lighting
It’s usually quite dull here, especially in the winter months but being able to have a dry morning it feels so crisp and fresh.Equipment
I was using a Nikon D3100 at the time, a small set up as it’s easy to carry around when you’re not going out specifically for a shoot.Inspiration
I have always loved the effect of long exposures on water, how it looks so foggy, and how it emphasises anything sticking out of the water. I was really excited when I though to try it on this historic structure.Editing
There wasn’t a lot of post production required on this, tweak the contrast, convert it to a black and white, and just slightly crop the pebbles out of the foreground. In my camera bag
I was carrying just some basics as I was going out looking for photos, I had the camera, with some ND filters and a small telescopic tripod.Feedback
Use nice ND filters to really get the exposure time up, the longer you can have your shutter open the smoother the effect you can produce on the misty water. And enjoy!
