The Leuty Lifeguard Station is set to turn 101 years old this summer. It currently sits perched on Lake Ontario giving lifeguards a home base while they’re patrolling the beach and saving lives during swimming season. In its 100+ years, this building has seen over 6,000 lives saved. It’s a prominent fixture in the community and represents a tiny, yet important part of Toronto’s rich history.

Back in the 1990s, this charming little structure fell into disrepair and was headed for demolition. The local community gathered together, fundraised, and ultimately saved the station from a less-than-ideal ending.
