Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Lake Sempach in Switzerland, which is close to my hometown of Lucerne. I can often be found there, so the location inspired me to do a photo shoot.

Time

The photo was taken shortly before dusk. It was a beautiful summer evening and we took the photo spontaneously after a photo shoot because we liked the sunrise.

Lighting

The lighting in this picture is 100% natural, the only light comes from the sun and the reflection in the water.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D800 combined with an 85mm f1.4 for this photo. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

We were on our way to the car park after a shoot. We saw the beautiful sunset and thought it would match the dress. I always wanted to have a picture like that in my file, so we had to take the chance. So I put the model on some stones by the water and pulled the trigger. We tried a few times until the perfect picture came out.

Editing

Apart from the exposure, nothing was edited in this photo. I only corrected the photo a little in Lightroom because it was a little too dark at the beginning. The rest is original and natural. I am not a fan of completely edited pictures, so I only do corrections on my pictures, such as exposure correction.

In my camera bag

In my backpack there is always my Nikon D800 and a matching 85mm and a 50mm lens. Most of the time I also carry my drone, a DJI Mavic Air, to find the right angle from the air if necessary. Since about 4 weeks I also have a 1m diameter reflector with me to increase the exposure a bit.

Feedback

My advice to all photographers out there is to walk through the world with your eyes open. Most of the time, the perfect picture is not planned and you just have to have the guts to pull the trigger. I usually only plan my shoots roughly and the models and my followers pretty much always like the pictures. So the motto of every photographer should be; open eyes and the courage to pull the trigger. Happy shooting Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
