Another shot from my set, taken just after an intense rain storm. The most beautiful golden light filtered in through our back door, so my fiancee kindly modelled for me as I quickly tried to grab some shots as the light faded.

This photo was taken in the front porch of my home, actually! Up against the front door.Time
The time of day played a huge role in this shot, and this entire set. It was around 7:30pm in the summer, and golden hour was just ending. It was a race against time to get the photos we did, but I really love the end result.Lighting
My partner (pictured) and I had just gotten home, and there had been a pretty big rain storm just an hour before these photos were taken. It was almost like the clouds cleared up and the sun finally got to shine through. This lighting is all natural lighting, during sunset, streaming in through trees and in through my back patio window.Equipment
This was shot on my Canon EOS 70D, on a Sigma 35mm. I shot it at f/1.4, ISO 800, 1/125. No other equipment!Inspiration
I have been trying over the course of the last year to start to be more spontaneous with my photography. I do a lot of stylized and planned photography work with models, and I have been trying to get some of my old, spur-of-the-moment creativity flowing again. When I saw the gorgeous golden light streaming in through the back door, I knew I had to get some shots, and I'm really glad I did!Editing
There was some post-processing. I shoot in RAW, so that I have total control over the image after I shoot it. There was nothing major done to the photo, just a little color correcting and highlight tweaks. In my camera bag
This may be shocking, but I'm very unprepared most of the time, haha. I typically bring my Sigma 35mm and my camera body (I recently switched to Sony A7III), and that's about it. I have the Canon 50mm f/1.2 and love it as well, but I fell in love with the 35mm and it's definitely my go to lens. I pack light, and it makes it easy on me to get my work done!Feedback
Don't be afraid to just start shooting. Even if things aren't perfect, planned, or exactly what you had in mind. Try to find the beauty in things around you that you normally just look over. Use what you have in the moment. For me, it was luck that my partner and I arrived home when we did, and it was definitely lucky for me that I happen to have such a beautiful woman in my life who puts up with me! I really believe in pushing yourself out of comfort zones, because it is extremely easy to just stay put when your work is satisfactory. I never stop trying to improve, never stop trying to push myself to try new styles or new angles. I think a photographer can truly shine when they take a step outside of the box and try something new.
