Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while I was working with small African cats called servals in a facility in Florida. I aided in raising newborns and socializing with them. This picture was taken at the end of a walk we took one day, when he was finally old enough to receive his first bone to gnaw on.

Time

This photo was taken during late morning, the perfect time for a pre-lunch snack.

Lighting

The lighting worked in my favor; it was a fairly cloudy day, providing me with the perfect amount of balanced light.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nixon D60 using an 18-55mm lens. It's my bounce-around camera and no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

This serval was new to me and reached a maturity point that allowed him to safely gnaw on a bone for the first time. I wanted to document this milestone for the youngster.

Editing

Since I already had great lighting, the only post-processing I did was an auto-enhancer that brightened up the colors a bit.

In my camera bag

I am a minimalist that likes to advensure. I normally only keep a small waterproof, Fuji camera with me. My Nixon D60 comes with me when I know I won't be hanging off ropes against rocks or diving into cenotes.

Feedback

Don't think about it too much. Enjoy the moment as it takes place and just try to capture it naturally. I find the more you try to manipulate a situation, find the perfect, or take shot after shot, the more forced the final product appears.
