Location
This photo was taken near the Grand Bazaar (kapali carsi) area of Istanbul. The mosque is exactly located between the main gates of University of Istanbul and the old printing market. This historic area is very well preserved and the vast open platform near the mosque has a very retro feeling.Time
This shot was taken towards the end of Bazaar work hours (4:30pm) in mid January. This is the perfect time to photograph the area since it’s before all the shops shut down and crowds start shuffling out. However, if you want to capture a more dynamic scene, the noon prayers time, especially on Fridays, would be a better timing.Lighting
This area is usually cloudy due to proximity to the sea and indirect sun makes very interesting lighting during different times of the day.Equipment
This photo was taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max.Inspiration
City of Istanbul is one of the architecture gems in the world. This ancient city has been the Capital to two of the largest empires in the world for more than seventeen centuries. On any given day you have the chance to take pictures of Christian and Islamic architecture as well as old and modern buildings.Editing
Limited lighting adjustment with iPhone. In my camera bag
I used to work with a Nikon D5500 with 50mm prime and 18-140 for three years. Recently I switched to FujiFilm X-T4 with 16-80 lens. I do use a tripod for night sky photography.Feedback
I always try to spend a few minutes scouting the area to find the best angle. Also, if my subject is a building I try to take photos on different days and different times of the day to experiment with a wider range of lighting options.
