Photo taken of some of the grounds surrounding Ginkakuji in Kyoto, Japan.
Due to the original image's poor quality (digital cameras weren't what they are now back then, and I didn't didn't have a high quality camera), this image has been edited slightly for color and clarity. Image captured 2009.

Location
At the Ginkaku-ji temple in Kyoto, Japan. This image is of some of the grounds surrounding the temple.Time
It was taken in the afternoon. The weather that day was not good so the area felt rather dim.Lighting
Because the sun was not out, some of my images that were not taken out in the open or facing towards the temple came out looking a bit dark. I was disappointed at the time because sunshine makes most landscapes easier to photograph. Who doesn't like the sun?Equipment
It was taken on a Canon PowerShot A430 Manual. No tripod, flash, or other accessories were used. Digital cameras were starting to pick up in popularity so I know better cameras would have been available at the time. However, before I left on my 2009 trip I had this older model Canon digital camera given to me by a family member; therefore I used it during my trip because it was free.Inspiration
I thought the gentle slope of the hill covered in moss might make for a beautiful picture. I tried to minimize the pathway in the background and take the shot when there were no people walking by so as to showcase the simple beauty of the landscape. Japan is such a gorgeous country and now that digital camera technology has really progressed in the 12 years since I last visited, I would love for the opportunity to return to Japan to take more beautiful photos.Editing
The original photo is a bit darker than the image you see here. Before uploading it to VB I adjusted the lighting so that the vibrant green of the moss and trees would really pop for the viewer. In my camera bag
I don't have a camera bag. For all of my pictures uploaded to ViewBug, I've used either my Canon PowerShot A430 Manual (used almost exclusively for my pictures of Japan) or whichever cellphone I owned at the time.Feedback
Try to think of the "flow" of the photograph. Are the lines leading the viewer's eyes in a particular direction? How can you change the angle of the shot so as to capture the viewer's interest and make them interested in your photograph? Should you need to use the rule of thirds? In this image I wanted to showcase the gently rolling hill and the trees sprinkled throughout the moss. It seemed like a scene you might find in a nature documentary and I wanted to capture the beauty of its simplicity as best I could.
