Behind The Lens

Location

This Photo was taken in one of my favorite cities for taking photos - NYC in the SoHo area of Manhattan

Time

This was taken 2.17.2018 7:11 pm, I think Chinese new Year had just passed.

Lighting

I noticed my subject walking towards the lamppost creating a great lighting effect with the snow so I snapped away, but what I didn't realize was that a car had pulled up a couple seconds later. The car's lights illuminated my subject, the sidewalk and even the stairs to the left creating a more dynamic picture in my opinion.

Equipment

I used a sony A7II with a rented lens Zeiss Planar 1.4. No tripod or flash just a steady hand.

Inspiration

For this picture, it's one of those moments where everything comes together and you don't realize it until you see the photo. It had just started snowing and I've always liked the effect that light has on snow during the night so I started taking photos.

Editing

I did minimal post-processing - there we're minor lens flares from the lamp and I used the frequency separation method in photoshop to correct the flares. Rest of the exposure and color adjustments were done in Capture One.

In my camera bag

Depending in what setting I am usually my Sony A7III, Sony 24-105, tamron 17-28 or 17-180 Lens, a couple of Breakthrough ND filters and CPL.

Feedback

Always be prepared especially if you're going for pictures that involve snowfall. Usually the first sign of snow are the best times to start taking pictures.
