Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Brighstone Forest on the Isle of Wight. It's such a magical place to explore and is great for inspiration.

Time

I took this photo on quite a cold day and I remember not wanting to leave the warmth of my bed in the morning. I ended up not going out until after lunch and everything was still covered in a layer of ice. I took this photo on the 10th of January 2021 at 14:44.

Lighting

Only natural lighting was used in this shot. It was a cloudy day but still quite bright out so the clouds helped to scatter an even white light through the fog.

Equipment

The only equipment I used was my Lumix DC-FZ1000 II camera which has a 25-400mm f/2.8-f/4.0 lens.

Inspiration

I was out on a walk on quite a foggy day, it was cold and everything was covered in a layer of frost. I remember walking up to the forest and everything looked so magical. I captured this path in particular because I felt drawn into it and I wanted my viewers to feel the same way.

Editing

I like to keep any post-process editing to a minimum in most of my photos. My aim is to show people the beauty that I am able to see through my eyes because of this I only make small adjustments to the colour and exposure of the image.

In my camera bag

Almost every time I leave my house I take my Lumix DC-FZ1000 II camera because it is so versatile and you never know when a photo opportunity will arise. Other than this I also often carry my Minolta Dynax 404si along with a range of lenses most of which are graduated. I think a lot of people will agree that getting the perfect photo on film is much more rewarding than with a digital camera.

Feedback

For photos like this, I find that its a matter of waiting for the right day with the right conditions. You may need to try several times before you get the right combination of things to give your photo the emotions you desire.
