This photo was taken in my sons room on his bed, I was balanced on a kitchen counter stall I had to haul up the stairs! My son was not cooperating, the petals I dropped were floating everywhere, never landing where I’d envisioned and I’d almost given up when I discovered I could place a handful of petals on my cameras flash, when I went to take a photo the flash would pop up sending petals floating down! My son LOVED it, smiling like a champ directly at the camera, it allowed me to have both hands free and capture my favourite Valentine’s Day photo to date. I adore this picture and the struggles behind it but it always reminds me of the joy I have when doing photography and also that sometime the silliest of ideas work the best!Time
It was around midday, when photographing toddlers Id aim for around 1pm, the light outside is gorgeous, they’ve had lunch so not cranky but it’s just late enough that if offered a bribe snack it’s very wanted!Lighting
Not really, it wasn’t meant to be a super professional shot just a cute Valentine’s Day one, the lighting was just natural from outsideEquipment
A kitchen stool! I’m only 5,5 so this was rather a struggle to get high enough to get a good pictureInspiration
Jealousy! If I’m being honest I was fed up of all the cute baby Valentine’s Day photos with lipstick stains on their cheeks or roses in their back pocket popping up on Instagram when I had nothing to post!Editing

A tripod, extra lenses, toddler photography has a unique set of equipment needed however, so I’d suggest getting the parent to bring drink and snacks, favourite toy. And as for your bag anything that makes a sound! Puppets are always a winner and my personal favourite for the younger ones, a clicker pen! I dont know but they love it.Feedback
Have fun! When I was stressing so was my son and we didn’t get the picture but the moment we started having fun bam I got it, but more importantly we captured a memory, a moment in time of joy all conveyed through this picture. And that’s what I think photography is all about, not getting a ‘good shot’ but saving a moment in time forever, a feeling, a tiny fragment of joy that you can hold in your hand.
