Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at the Denver Zoo around 1985 on Kodachrome 64 film, using a Vivitar Series I 600 mm solid catadioptric lens.

Time

Probably in winter, early afternoon. I was taking classes at the community college in downtown Denver and would sometimes go to the zoo between classes.

Lighting

Afternoon winter light.

Equipment

Canon A-1 with 600mm mirror lens. The Vivitar solid cat lens were about 3 1/4 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide and very heavy.

Inspiration

Animals tend to be more active and alert in colder weather when there are less people.

Editing

Scanned the slide, post processed in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Back then, two Canon A-1 bodies, 28mm Canon FD and 70-210 mm Series 1 zoom.

Feedback

Using a big telephoto lens, will often blur out any fencing between you and subject if you are close to it.
