This photo was taken in my backyard under light pollution sky's.Time
This was done about an hour after sunset in the winter months when the sky is much clearer.Lighting
For a picture like this to happen it has to be real dark. This was not the case. There were lights on everywhere, people love to leave there outside light on all the time around here. some people have their lights pointed in there neighbors yards.Equipment
This was taken on A Celestron tracking mount with a 66mm telescope made by Stellarvue. I had a Canon 400d attached to the back of the telescope taking long exposures up to a min. long.Inspiration
Ever since I was very little I loved space. Growing up near the city always washed out the sky for me. I never had money to own a telescope until I got older. After I moved to NC I was able to see the sky. I was in a position where I could afford to by a telescope. After awhile I decided to get into Astrophotography. With Orion nebula being high in the sky, I went for it. This was one of my first objects that I photographed.Editing
Post processing is not that much fun when it comes to Astrophotography, there is a lot that goes into that. I used a program called Deep Sky Stacker. I had about 40 pictures that needed to be aligned and stacked on top of each other. After the photos were stacked I then moved to over to Photoshop where I had to Tweak and Stretch to get the colors out and remove the light pollution. In my camera bag
I have left Astrophotography behind now. The light pollution here has gotten bad again due to all the homes and stores going up around me. I have moved to just doing portrait photography now. I carry a 70D with a Sigma 24-105 F4, Sigma 17-50 F2.8 and a Canon 85mm F1.8.Feedback
All I can say is that this becomes an expensive hobby fast. Make sure you have a good mount and clear sky's. The mount is everything when it comes to tracking. Have patients and just enjoy it. Thanks and Good luck.
